Death Rally brings an exhilarating racing experience to the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. The game features both top rank graphics and a host of power-ups.

iPad owners looking for a top notch racing game with excellent graphics and loads of unfettered violence need to check out Death Rally. It's a Universal App, so those with the iPhone or iPod Touch (3G and 4G only) are also able to join the fun.

Death Rally for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch Features

  • Excellent Isometric Graphics (Optimized on the iPad 2)
  • Career Mode with Loads of Cars and Weapon Upgrades
  • Different Racing Types, Including the Survival Arena
  • Various Bosses, Including Duke Nukem
  • Game Center Support with Leaderboards and Achievements

Developed by Remedy Entertainment, Death Rally is deservedly in the App Store's iPad Hall of Fame. Its closest competitor on the iOS platform is Electronic Art's Reckless Racing, but Death Rally is a better game at a better price.

Top Down Rally Racing on the iPad 2

The iOS platform edition of Death Rally is a remake of the PC version of the game which first appeared in the mid 1990s. The iPad 2 is arguably the perfect home for the game with its smooth 60fps animation and excellent use of touchscreen controls.

Each car is controlled using two virtual joysticks. The lower left control is used to steer, while the lower right control handles the weaponry. Acceleration occurs automatically. A wide array of tracks, including both urban, ice, and desert regions add to the game's variety.

Death Rally's Career mode sports a host of car and weapon upgrades. These upgrades appear on the track during races, and can be improved using currency earned by successful rally performance, including destroying the other competitor's cars. The difficulty of the races also increases as the career progresses, both with tougher bosses and better opponents.

In addition to six-car rally races, there are also one-on-one battles, and the Survival Arena where the player takes on Duke Nukem and friends in what is best described as an isometric graphics version of Destruction Derby. The occasional cartoon-like cut scene helps to progress the storyline.

Game Center Support for Death Rally

Apple's Game Center social network is fully supported by Death Rally, including a ton of achievements to earn and leaderboards to track performance against other gamers.

Death Rally is arguably the most fun racing game available for the iPad, and probably the best of the isometric, top-down racers on the iOS platform. At its current App Store price of 0.99, it's a must download for all racing fans. Another excellent iOS racing game worth checking out is Gameloft's GT Racing Motor Academy, the closest thing to Gran Turismo on the iPhone.
