Computer baseball fans are undoubtedly aware of Out of the Park Baseball. The simulation delights with both a strong attention to detail and unparalleled flexibility. Those curious about the desktop version of the game need to try out the free version of Out of the Park Baseball 8. Expect a profile of the new Out of the Park Baseball 12 right here at Suite 101 in the near future.
iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch owners can now experience the world of OOTP on their mobile device with iOOTP Baseball 2011 which made its debut at the App Store earlier this year. The game features the current baseball season, historical replays, and completely fictional leagues, with a surprising amount of detail retained from the desktop version.
iOOTP Baseball 2011 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch Features

- Three Historical Seasons (1923, 1965, 2004)
- Fictional Leagues Possible with Various Configurations
- Additional Seasons Available Through In-App Purchase
- Play the Role of Manager, General Manager, or Both
iOOTP Baseball 2011 is currently available at the App Store for $4.99; additional historical seasons are also available through in-app purchase.
Take Me Out to the Ballgame on the iPhone
When first beginning a iOOTP game, the user chooses between the current season, historical season, or even a completely fictional setup with a flexible league structure. No matter the choice the played franchise lasts for seasons with older players retiring, and new players being drafted. Of course, free agents can be signed as well.
The two major losses from the desktop version of Out of the Park are the removal of the game's scouting engine and the abstraction of a franchise's minor league structure to a list of the team's best talent in the minors. Pretty much everything else remains the same.
iOOTP Baseball's Excellent Interface Design
With all the player attributes, statistics, and financial information available in iOOTP Baseball, the developers did an excellent job in interface design, as navigating the game's screens is relatively easy. An iPad version as part of a universal app is also in the pipeline for future release.
Playing the roles of manager and general manager is a breeze, and anyone familiar with baseball -- especially those who feel they can do a better job than their favorite team's front office staff -- will feel right at home in iOOTP Baseball 2011. To parrot EA Sports' marketing cliche, it's in the game!
With the lack of quality sports management sims available for the iOS platform -- Championship Manager being a notable exception -- the appearance of iOOTP Baseball 2011 at the App Store is a newsworthy event for fans of this gaming genre.
