The Classic Example of a Tower Defense Game - with Zombies!
The PvZ gameboard features a house on the left and encroaching zombies from the right. In the middle is a grid of squares, where the gamer places an array of plants with various abilities to destroy the zombie onslaught.
Sunlight is the main resource in the game; planting is nearly impossible without it. Sunflowers give off extra sunlight, becoming very important during the Night and Fog levels.
Completing each adventure level gives access to a new plant or some other game feature. Some of the plants' unique abilities include rapid fire, being able to freeze and slow down zombies, and the exploding cherries, which are quite useful in a pinch.
The large menagerie of zombies also sport an array of different attacks and shields. Watch out for zombies wearing helmets or carrying screen doors! The Zombatar, unlocked at a higher level, actually allows the gamer to design their own zombie.
PvZ's Mini-Games Add to the Replay Value
21 different mini-games greatly add to Plants vs. Zombies' replay value. Wall-nut Bowling is unlocked early in the game, but is arguably the best of all the mini-games. Various co-op and versus multi-player game modes also add to the zombie killing (or house destroying) frivolity.
PlayStation 3 owners can find PvZ as a convenient download from the PlayStation Network. The game also features a collection of PS3 Trophies.
Fans of Halloween or zombie games definitely need to check out Plants vs. Zombies. Current owners need to go play a level to celebrate the holiday season! PlayStation 3 owners looking for another great PSN title might be interested in Zen Pinball.
