While most games in the tower defense genre seem like a lite version of a real-time strategy title, Tesla Wars is all about frenetic action and gameplay.

Tesla Wars is a unique tower defense app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Instead of gameplay reminiscent of a watered-down real-time strategy game, Tesla Wars brings frenetic action in addition to the strategy elements typical of the RTS genre.

Tesla Wars for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch Features

  • Unlimited Number of Levels
  • Eight Different Enemies with Unique Traits
  • Six Upgradable Special Attacks
  • Great Graphics and Frenetic Gameplay
  • Support for the OpenFeint Social Gaming Network

Developed by one man, Pavel Tarabrin, Tesla Wars is sure to please fans of real-time strategy games desiring more action. In fact, completing one Tesla Wars level is perfect for a quick gaming break. The finger-tapping action gets so intense, it almost rivals the other screen-bashing iPhone title, Fingerzilla.

A Tower Defense Game for the iPhone with Action

At its core, Tesla Wars is a tower defense game. The user is responsible for protecting the last Tesla Tower located in the middle of the screen, as well as the walls that extend vertically on both sides. Various types of stick-figured enemies attack in waves trying to destroy the tower along with the walls.

Swift and accurate finger-taps are used to kill the attacking enemies. The Kamikaze enemies carry explosives, so it is a good strategy to destroy them first before they get to the tower or walls; exploding Kamikazes also take out some of their fellow enemies.

At the end of each level, the gamer earns money for each destroyed enemy. The money is used towards fixing tower damage, restoring the energy used in defense, and purchasing upgrades. The upgrades include additional resources (energy, tower strength, power), as well as a collection of special attacks.

Specials are activated in the middle of a turn by accessing them from the pause menu. In many cases, it is better to spend money on resources and the Double Lightning and Reflection power-ups, as these don't require breaking up the gameplay when using the pause menu to activate a special.

Social Network Integration Adds to the Replay Value

Tesla Wars fully supports the iPhone's OpenFeint social gaming network with worldwide leaderboards and a nice collection of achievements. The game itself provides enough gameplay depth, so this additional feature is merely icing on the tower.

Action gamers who feel the tower defense genre is boring should take a look at Tesla Wars. This game provides a nearly perfect mixture of action, strategy, and quick gameplay sure to please iPhone owners looking for a quality App Store download.
