Costume Quest is a fun and casual RPG that rivals Plants vs. Zombies as one of the best Halloween-themed video games available for the PlayStation 3. The game is currently available this month as a free download from the PlayStation Network for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Costume Quest for the PlayStation 3 Features

  • Casual Halloween-Themed RPG
  • Appropriate for the Entire Family
  • Find New Costumes With Special Abilities
  • Trick or Treat for Candy!
  • Excellent Graphics and Storyline
  • PlayStation Network Trophies

Developed by Double Fine Productions, Inc., Costume Quest is a great game for parents to play with their kids. The cartoon-like graphics are enthralling, plus there is enough wit and humor in the dialogue to keep adults interested.

Trick or Treat on the PS3

Costume Quest begins with Halloween night trick or treating around the protagonist's neighborhood. The storyline quickly takes a surprising turn, with the game becoming a casual take on the traditional RPG model. Monsters are afoot, and they are trying to steal Halloween!

The game's various costumes are the key to combat and exploration, with each providing unique abilities useful in both contexts. New costume patterns are discovered throughout the quest, and these patterns are used to make new costumes once the required materials are found.

Combat in Costume Quest is turn-based with an interesting timing element used to enhance attacks or defense. A costume's special ability comes into play as well. The animated cut-scenes used during combat are hilarious, especially when the Statue of Liberty uses her Anthem ability.

Typical RPG elements like leveling-up are also present in Costume Quest. The candy earned while trick or treating or after a victorious battle is used to purchase Battle Stamps, which enhance a character's attributes during combat.

Costume Quest and Sub-Quests

In addition to the main storyline, Costume Quest sports a host of sub-quests that add to a character's experience points when completed. Mini-games, like the fun pastime Apple Bobbing are also useful for increasing XP.

Since Costume Quest is currently available as a free download from the PlayStation Network for PlayStation Plus subscribers, the game also supports PlayStation Network Trophies which add to this game's replay value.

Costume Quest is a perfect title for PlayStation 3 owners looking for a game the whole family can enjoy. A Xbox 360 version is also available from Xbox Live. There's arguably no better way to enjoy Halloween on a video game console!
